Black Swan

I think that this was probably my favorite shoot of 2015 it was themed on the film black swan. The model was Kara and the amount of effort that she put into the makeup was amazing. I went for quite a dark set of images to match the theme and am pleased with the overall result. I definitely find that having a theme for a shoot produces better images than random images,
I have a few ideas for shoots in 2016 and hopefully we can produce something to rival these images.
Happy New Year

Flash course

Just a short post today these images were taken at a short course arranged by two members of Rochdale Photographic Society. They arranged the model and a makeup artist.

Audrey

Todays post is a shoot that i themed with a great model Kara. We decided to use Audrey Hepburn as the inspiration. The idea was to give a feeling of Audrey not a impersonation. I researched the images and the lighting. Kara did the makeup and styling. Some of the images were black and white and others colour. I like both. It was an enjoyable shoot to do and Kara did an amazing job on the styling. These themed shoots do take more research but i find them more satisfying in the end. The first image was actually taken on Ilford XP2 film and was scanned. It does have a different look i feel

Darcey Movement

Today's post again features Darcey . In these images the idea was to show some movement with a core of sharpness. To do this the exposure was set for the ambient light which gave a slow shutter speed of approximately 1/6th of a second they were shot on a tripod to prevent camera shake. However this speed allowed Darcey and the cloth to record as blurred due to movement. The flash fired on second curtain sync (at the end of the exposure) and this recorded a core of sharpness which because it had a grid on to narrow the light beam focused on Darcey's face giving a sharp point because of the speed of the flash duration which was enough to freeze that part of the image it illuminated giving a ghost effect as well. Darcey had to use the cloth expansively to show as much movement as possible which she did admirably. Bit technical but fun and something we may develop further in later shoots .

Tuesday 8 December 2015

Today's post is part of a shoot that i did with a talented dancer called Darcey. The idea was a juxtaposition between the machines and factory and the dancer. We broke the shoot up with costume changes which Darcey did very fast :) which enabled us to get a number of different 'looks' in the time available. Posing was mainly left to Darcey as she knows her positions and i looked after the technical aspects. I will be posting a second part to this shoot very soon. This will be focusing on movement.
All in all it was a really fun shoot and i hope Darcey enjoyed it as much as i did. Hopefully we can work together again as i feel there is a lot more images we can make.
